Board grain from layered value noise, burned back to near-black.
7 boardsChapter zero — the approach
A five-chapter walk up a mountain path after dark. Every stone, roof, lantern and falling leaf on this page is generated in code at load — the page carries no photographs at all.
The gate does not keep anyone out. It marks the line where the ordinary road ends and the path begins, and asks you to notice crossing it.
Two uprights, a curved lintel, and a second beam beneath it. Vermilion, because the colour was thought to hold the weather off the timber — and it does, for about a decade at a time.
Walk onNo mesh is imported and no texture is downloaded. Each surface below is a canvas drawn at boot, turned into a normal map, and hung on a standard material.

The walk resets each time the page loads. Nothing here is recorded, cached or sent anywhere — the whole scene is rebuilt from a seed.
